The Lukmire Partnership - Firm Biography

The Lukmire Partnership, Inc. Architects and Planners, incorporated in 1989, is the successor firm to the Washington, DC office of LBC&W/Maguire Group, Inc., a nationally recognized architectural, engineering and planning firm. As such, the firm has been in continuous operation for nearly 50 years and, in that time has completed a wide variety of projects for private, public, and institutional clients throughout the region.

We offer services in planning, programming, architecture, interior design, cost management, and program management services. With a staff of 25 the firm is able to address both large- and small-scale projects. The firm offers services to public and private sector clients and has established a reputation for excellence in the design of administrative facilities, educational facilities, theaters, libraries, hotels, operations and maintenance centers, and correctional facilities. In addition, services are offered to lending institutions, mortgage companies, and building owners for building analysis, program management and construction support services.

The Lukmire Partnership’s emphasis is on learning and responding to the particular needs of our clients, through in-depth analysis of a client's site, program, and budget. We operate on the assumption that if we are to help shape the environment in which our clients do business, we first need to understand their work processes, concerns, constraints, and goals.

Our staff is organized into specialized design teams who manage projects from concept design through client occupancy. This approach assures that the same group of professionals that begins work on a project will implement the design, and then follow it through construction. This allows us to be more cohesive, and to be responsive and accountable to the needs of our clients. This expertise and knowledge of regulations, procedures and review processes has lead to many clients who have retained our design team to design multiple projects.

As a steward of the environment, we strive to design buildings in an environmentally responsible way. Our design process always includes the preparation of a LEED scorecard even if our clients do not plan on submitting the project to the USGBC for certification. This process enables the design team to focus on strategies to create energy efficient buildings, both in their construction as well as during their life cycle.

It is important to The Lukmire Partnership that our design work is memorable, timeless, functional, appropriate to its site, and environmentally responsible. We strive to achieve quality in our documentation and in construction. Our goal is to establish long-term relationships with our clients who value our advice, knowledge, and design ability.
